In 1983, GME became the first private sector automotive manufacturer in Egypt. Production began in the new factory in 1985. The Mansour Automotive Company had paved the way for GM’s entry, through years of dealership and market experience.
Today, the GME facility is one of Egypt’s most productive, delivering quality vehicles
and providing a model for high standard industrial practice.

The Mansour Group is the largest Egyptian shareholder in GME, with a 16 percent stake. General Motors has a 31 percent equity interest and management responsibility in this joint venture company.
Isuzu Motors has a 20 percent equity interest, individual Egyptians have a 33 percent interest, and Saudi investors have a 16 percent interest.

Facilities
The plant is built on a 36-acre site, with 270,000 square feet of floor space in the Sixth of October City, just west of Cairo.

Products
GME produces light and medium-duty trucks with Isuzu and Chevrolet brand names, as well as Opel passenger cars and Chevrolet trucks.
